Winter seems to be here to stay...

...but we try not to let that slow us down too much. Max loves his jogging stroller and going for walks in his Moby wrap. Honestly, we're just happy to have 'normal' Portland winter weather back this week after highs in the teens last week. Some fresh air in the afternoon is just what the doctor ordered.

Before and after photos from our outing yesterday. Max turns 11 weeks tomorrow and loves to look at anything new and different.

Two Months

Max turned 2 months old on Monday! He's smiling and giggling and a total blast to be around. He was a whopping 15 lbs at his two month doctor visit and is out growing clothes at an alarming rate.

We're settling in to all the big changes of the last two months and Max is starting to find his own rhythm. I go back to work in January, and in the mean time am savoring every second of being home with Max. Jeremy started his new job at AllStar Fitness on Monday and has had a great first week in his roll as Director of Athlete Development.

Here's a link to some highlight photos from the last month:

Thanksgiving Dinner

Some pictures from our delish and delightful Thanksgiving with the Bossy Arends women and their families (and their families). We spent the day in St. Helens at my Aunt Joan and Uncle Garett's farm. While the weather didn't let us get outside to see all the animals, it was enough of a zoo inside to keep all of us entertained (five dogs, fourteen humans). Max pretty much slept the afternoon away. Uncle Chuck says that next time he needs to do a better job entertaining the adults. I say, it is only a matter of time....

Jeremy made a green bean masterpiece with ginger and cashews. Max hung out in the moby wrap and also got some snuggles in with 'aunt' Lily and 'sister' Ginger.

Four Generations

Max got to meet his Great Grandma Marie during her trip to Oregon earlier this month. She was a natural with him and had all sorts of stories to share from when she raised her children. I think the "little" guy grew about five pounds during her two week trip....we could all see the difference.

Max and I flew past the six week mile marker with flying colors. He's growing like a weed, and I am healing enough to get back to "real" workouts and a heart rate higher than 140. New Year's Day Triathlon, here I come. How many days do I have to get ready?

Tomorrow is Max's two month check up, and I promise to post his official weight when we get home. Rumors are that it might be north of 14 lbs!

Happy Halloween

It would be a stretch to say that Max enjoyed his first Halloween. Although the cutest Pea Pod we have ever seen, the outfit does not exactly stack up with Max's favorite things, it's hot, covers his face, and he can't find his hands anywhere! We did get the compulsory photos though and even had one trick or treater come to the house...

Out and About

Coming to an end of my 2 weeks off with the family. Everyday we have tried to get out and do something, whether a trip to the store, off to see friends, or a hike like this at the Audobon Society we have gotten used to having the little guy in a car seat, nursing and changing on the go, and cool ways to carry him like the Moby Wrap pictured here. It's been amazing to have this time with them and as much as I look forward to seeing everyone at the club, I already know it's going to be very hard being away from Lee and Max all day.

Getting His Sweat On

Coming from a fairly athletic family, it's reasonable to expect that Max will start working out early in his life - but in the first few days? As it turns out, yes! Everyday, typically in the mornings, we lay his blanket out and give him some "tummy time". During these sessions he moves himself around a little bit, sometimes lifting his head up and turning to the other side, sometimes pumping his legs to try to move around, and sometimes (as in this video) he just lays there doing not much of anything! Either way, Ironmax is getting his workout on...

1st Week

Our first week home with Max has been amazing. He is truly an awesome kid, sleeps and eats like a champ and generally seems to enjoy being around us when he's awake. We've taken lots of walks, been on a few outings, and had lots of visitors coming to see the madman. We've started reading books to him everyday, taking baths together which he doesn't seem to mind at all, and he's sleeping by himself for long stretches in his basket.

Going Home!

After barely 24 hours at the hospital, the Carson Hyatt clan heads for home...
The nurses at the hospital were all great and we had lots of visits from Max's new family. e were able to rest and eat well and learn some tricks on feeding and swaddling from the staff at Providence. We are super excited to be headed home to start our new journey as a family of three!

The Madman has arrived!

Max Carson Hyatt
Wednesday, September 30th, 2009.
9 lbs / 21 inches
Born at 2:03pm PST at Providence Hospital in Portland Oregon

Lee was able to deliver Max naturally with the help of our wonderful midwife, Karen Parker Lynn. Labor lasted all of 10 hours, with only 1.5 hours in the hospital before the little guy arrived.

Jeremy was able to "catch" Max as he arrived and place him on Lee's chest where the three rested comfortably for 1-2 hours, just happily getting to know each other. max was as alert as he has ever been during those first 2 hours, staring at his Mom the whole time.
